Gateways to Tomorrow Conference Speaker: General James P. Cullen

October 7, 2009 General James P. Cullen is a retired Brigadier General in the United States Army Reserve Judge Advocate General's Corps and last served as the Chief Judge (IMA) of the U.S. Army Court of Criminal Appeals. He was among the 16 retired Generals and Admirals who stood with newly-elected President Barack Obama in the White House in January 2009 to witness the signing of orders that ban torture, close the Guantanamo Bay detention facility, and end the CIA's use of secret prisons.

In 1980, General Cullen became the founding president of the Brehon Law Society, working closely with the late Paul O'Dwyer and other civil rights attorneys in a number of high profile cases. General Cullen is also a member of the Lawyers Alliance for Justice In Ireland and has travelled to Ireland many times on civil rights missions, including for this year's Pat Finucane Conference in Dublin.
